After four years of full rehabilitation, the Silk Museum is joining the International Museum Day and Museum Week 2025 with great joy.
Together with the museum team and interns, we have planned engaging activities and seminars for you.

Program:

MAY 18 – INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM DAY

Opening of Temporary Exhibition by Irma Sharikadze: The EMBROIDERED KHEBERI
Ajarian Women’s Heritage between Myth and Contemporary

17:00–21:00 | Opening Performance - 17:00

The exhibition by visual artist Irma Sharikadze, presents the cultural heritage of Ajarian women through a multimedia format. “Kheberi” (meaning “story” in the Ajarian dialect) becomes a symbolic bridge between archetypal myth and contemporary visual esthetics. On view are a collection of traditional Ajarian embroideries, Irma Sharikadze’s photographic works from her expeditions between 2019–2022, her film “Ajarian Bride’s Treasure,” new ceramic objects and an installation by Irma De Flore.

MAY 22 – BIODIVERSITY DAY
Seminars and Interactive Program on Natural History and Sustainability.

Only one-day Interactive exploration of selected silk moths from the museum’s collection under the microscope. (Gvantsa Potskhishvili- wall painting restoration specialist, Valeri Petrov - collection restorator, biologist)

Discussions with entomologist Sophio Injia (Georgia, State Silk Museum) and invited specialist, environmental educator Kao Kaiyama (Japan)

17:00-17:45 – Is human intervention in nature a “bad” thing? – Lecture by Kao Kaiyama (Japan), working language English.

18:00-18:30 – State Silk Museum Entomology Collection – Presentation by Sophio Injia (Georgia, State Silk Museum), working language Georgian.

18:30 - 19:00 - Interactive Part: Microscopic Observation of Selected Butterfly Specimens (informal discussions with biologist Valeri Petrov.

19:00 - 19:30 – What is truly eco-friendly and sustainable? – Discussion with Kao Kaiyama (Japan, invited specialist, environmental scientist), working Language English.

19:30 - 20:00 - Sound Composition presentation: Eco-Sound Collage.

Eco-acoustic experiment initiated by platform Tankhmovani in collaboration with musician Nino Davadze, inviting audiences into the sonic experiment dedicated to the ecology, diversity and surroundings.

MAY 24 – RESEARCH PRESENTATIONS

15:00 – Meeting with emerging art historian Anastasia Kalandadze
An open discussion with invited emerging professional Anastasia Kalandadze on her current research based initiative AVGAVANI and knowledge-sharing formats for the State Silk Museum.

16:00 – Presentation: Tbilisi Silk Way Virtual Map| Horizon Europe project ARACNE

The project presents a thematic virtual map of Tbilisi, connecting historical and contemporary silk related institutions. Technical support provided by Sakartvelo 360.
