“As a Metal Yarn” was a multidisciplinary exhibition that connected contemporary art to the history of silk production in Georgia. Using the production tradition as an allegory to the contemporary culture in Georgia, the exhibition aimed to emphasize its specificities, history, and potential.

The exhibition took its name from a video work presented at the show, created by a group of students (Silk Laboratory, 2016, duration 3:30 min.). In the video, the local silk is referred to “a ray” and is as strong as metal. The exhibition offered an alternative reading to the history of contemporary art in Georgia, while presenting female practitioners at its core.
